Things are heating up, but Mount Diablo’s spring blooms are far from gone. According to the Mount Diablo Interpretive Association, a total of 231 species of wildflowers were observed blooming on the mountain as of the start of June!

This year, abundant rain and cooler weather have delayed the end of the spring flowers throughout Mount Diablo State Park—which means this will be a great summer to explore its open spaces.
Late spring and summer are a time when a mix of wildflowers including clarkias, mariposa lilies, buckeyes, larkspurs, and California and ground roses can be found on the mountain.
The Dr. Mary Bowerman Trail near Mount Diablo’s summit is a particularly great place to enjoy flowers during the month of June.
It’s a short, ADA-accessible trail with some of the best and most expansive views in the Bay Area. It usually has a variety of uncommon and vibrant blooms during the month of June thanks to the summit’s cooler weather and unusual ancient geology.

Other places on Mount Diablo that still have lots of wildflowers include Eagle Peak, Black Point Peak, and the upper parts of Mitchell Canyon near Deer Flat.
